Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with his Chilean counterpart Michelle Bachelet in Santiago, Chile. The two leaders agreed to lift bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. President Xi and Bachelet also witnessed the signing of 12 agreements covering areas such as agriculture, mining and infrastructure.
The two leaders spoke highly of the results achieved over the past ten years since their bilateral Free Trade Agreement went into effect. They also agreed to start upgrading the FTA for greater mutual benefit. This is the Xi Jinping's first trip to Chile as president since taking office in 2013. And, the visit to Chile will be the last leg of President Xi's productive week-long Latin American tour.
