Full coverage: Xi Visits Ecuador, Peru and Chile, Attends APEC Summit

TV audiences in Peru are getting a taste of China, with a “China TV Week” launched by the country’s national television station. The event coincides with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the capital Lima and his attendance at the APEC economic leaders meeting.

Begining last Monday, Peru’s National TV has been broadcasting a series of documentaries made by China Central Television. The China TV week is part of a contract signed by the two TV stations this September, which deepens cooperation between the two sides in fields like material sharing and program broadcasting. The documentaries broadcast in Peru cover topics such as Chinese culture, tourism and cuisine.

“CCTV was very efficient in communicating with us and transmitting programs to us. We picked out some from them that are popular with audiences, relating to tourism and cuisine, and made them into a series called ‘APEC week, From the Other Side of the Pacific.’ It is broadcast at 10 o’clock every night,” said Angela Delgado, program manager of Peru’s National TV.

Peru’s National TV has also broadcast two other documentaries that CCTV made exclusively for this session of APEC, showing the relevancy of Chinese and Peruvian cultures to each other.

“It’s nearly done. The program has been approved by the manager, and it is about to be sent to the server for broadcasting. All the documentaries are very nicely made, both in terms of video and audio. The storytelling is intriguing. It'll be very fresh for our TV viewers to see Chinese telling stories of our own country. We also get to know what Peru is like in the eyes of foreigners,” said Orlando Lenfant, editor of Peru’s National TV.

“The Chinese TV week has got a very good audience rating so far. Peruvians like this series through, which they get to know what’s going on in China right now,” said Hugo Coya, director of Peru’s National TV.

“Previously, we planned a week long festival. As President Xi Jinping’s state visit will continue after APEC, we will extend the event for another several days, to pay salute to him. Because we are very honored by Xi’s visit to our country. China is such an important country. We’re very looking forward to Xi's visit. We will have strong coverage of Xi’s visit.”

Cooperation between Peru’s National TV and CCTV will also include exchanges of technology and personnel.
