President Xi Jinping says China is willing to work with Ecuador to boost cooperation between China and Latin America. Let's take a look at current ties. China is Latin America's second largest trading partner. Two way trade stood at over 236 billion US dollars in 2015 and accounted for around 6 percent of China's total foreign trade volume.

Latin America is a major destination for Chinese investment. Chinese enterprises have invested over US$126 billion into the region. Latin America has received over 11 percent of total Chinese foreign direct investment. China has pledged to increase bilateral trade to US$500 billion and increase Chinese investment in the region to $250 billion by 2025.
