Post-Brexit UK tourism was a hot topic at the recently concluded World Travel Market 2016 in London. A survey released at the expo shows that most Britons think it'll be more expensive to travel outside the UK due to the weaker pound.

One-third of the travel agencies think the prices of travel products will rise. Caroline Bremner, head of travel and tourism with Euromonitor International, said there's been uncertainty in the tourism industry since the Brexit vote.

"This year to stay at home, because I know that I can get value for money at home. That's the other side of the coin that the inbound and the domestic markets have a golden opportunity now following the Brexit vote. The impact and the rise in international travel won't be felt until 2018 to 2019 at the earliest."

Statistics show that visits to the UK by overseas residents jumped 4 percent in the 12 months to August, compared with last year. The tourists spent about 22 billion pounds, a 2 percent increase over last year. However, some airlines reduced their flights to the UK to control their operating costs.

U.S. travel analyst Doug Lansky said, "There are some lawyers that are going to get a lot of money to rewrite a lot of contracts for airplanes and they'll keep Brussels busy for a while. If we look at a time-line of tourism either in and out of the UK, or if we look at like a 10 or 20-year time-line, it's going to look like a little blip, or a medium-size blip, but it will be a blip and it will rebound, just like we have rebounded in Paris after the horrible attacks there, just like it's rebounded after the tsunami in Asia. It rebounds."

There are still optimists who believe that the general trend of UK tourism won't be affected by the Brexit. Some parts of the country are looking to reduce the air passenger duty tax which could bring some relief to the UK tourism sector.
