China's Liang Wenbo is competing for the first time. On Wednesday he would face the always difficult task of taking on world number one Mark Selby, and things would not go well for the Chinese in Conventry.
Liang's efforts at building a decent break in the first frame are ended when he misses this black.
But hes given another chance when Selby fails on this pink.
Liang comes back to the table where he's joined by an unwanted guest, as a fly takes the best seat in the house, right next to the blue ball where it looks pretty comfortable. Until being chased away by the referee.
But it's not giving up without another look and neither is the ref who tries and fails to revoke its ticket.
Back to the match as Liang misses the red.
And that allows Selby to claim the opening frame.
In the second, the Chinese would just miss this cut back on the black.
But he would have have a chance to catch up later in the frame, but is forced to conceded after missing the black and it's 2-0 Selby.
In the third, Selby misses this red giving Liang an opening.
The English Open champion only racks up 23 points before ceding the table back to the Englishman.
Selby would take control from there and go on to win the third frame.
The fourth would be all Selby as a break of 104 is enough to see the world number one sweep the match 4 frames to 0.
Next up for Selby would be Mark Allen in the Group 2 final and Selby wins the first frame with a break of 106.
But Allen would quickly comeback and go on to build a 4-frames-to-2 lead.
Selby takes the seventh to make it 4-3.
But Allen would not be daunted as he adds to his lead over the other Mark.
5-4 for Allen now in this best of 11 frames match, but once again Selby levels the score to force a decider.
And when Selby misses this red, he opens the door for Allen who would go on to close it out to claim a 6-5 victory and a spot in the semi-finals where he'll face Ronnie O'Sullivan.
