The interpretation of the Basic Law of Hong Kong SAR by the National People's Congress has demonstrated the central government's firm determination and will against 'Hong Kong independence'. Meanwhile, it underscores the authority of the Basic Law and the rule of law in Hong Kong.

"China's top legislature adopted an interpretation of Article 104 of the Basic Law of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by a unanimous vote. And the interpretation is very clear. Judges of courts at all levels in Hong Kong must abide by the law when dealing with legal cases. In fact, most people in Hong Kong are patriotic, and there are only a small group of people who want to complicate the matter. The fist article of the Basic Law that is written very clearly that HKSAR is an inseparable part of the People's Republic of China. The adoption of the interpretation of the Basic Law by the National People's Congress will keep 'Hong Kong independence' from spreading in the future," NPC member in HKSAR Chan Chung-Bun said.
