The COP-22 Conference opened today in Marrakech, Morocco. The 10-day meeting will focus on developing detailed action plans for the goals of the Paris Agreement, and that includes ways to reduce global temperatures by 1.5 Celsius.
The agreement also looks to support developing countries’ carbon-reducing efforts. Providing developing countries with U.S.$100 billion every year from 2020 to 2025 is one example, China issued a report before COP-22 , saying that it is resolute in making these goals a reality.
The country has reduced its carbon intensity by 20 percent in the last five years. It also vows to further push for a green growth pattern at home. At the end of last year, China also set up a 20 billion yuan worth South-South Climate Cooperation Fund.
The cooperation aims to help developing nations cope with climate change.
