South Korea's presidential office has named a finance minister amid the scandal involving President Park Geun-hye and a friend accused of meddling in state affairs.
The finance minister designate Yim Jong-yong said Wednesday that he will keep macroeconomic policy accommodative and promised to keep the economy stable.
"I'm aware of the internal and external situation in the government is a financial crisis. The economic department, including me, will stand together and take pre-emptive actions against uncertainty and use all our strength to stabilize the people's lives to gain public trust." said Yim Jong-yong, S. Korean Finance Minister Designate.
The new finance minister says South Korea is in serious economic times and he called for unity to deal with the difficulties. He also promised to continue the efforts in restructuring the country's shipping and ship building industries.
The 57-year-old official began his career at the finance ministry decades ago. Yim was vice finance minister when he left to work at the prime minister's office in late 2011.
