The Ministry of Transport's regulations stipulate that all online car hailing drivers must have driven for three years with no record of traffic offences, drug usage, drunken driving or violent crime. The drivers also should keep good driving records for three consecutive years. The online car hailing companies must make clear records of drivers' basic information, orders and also track their driving routes.
Some Chinese cities have their own rules on online car hailing as well. Some are even stricter than the national guidelines and mainly focus on the vehicle's license location and driver's hukou. Such cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Qingdao require that all of the vehicles and drivers be registered locally.
By contrast, the rules are softer in many southern cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Nanjing. Those cities only request that the vehicles be registered locally and the drivers needn't be local citizens.
