Full coverage: The Sixth Plenum of the 18th CPC Central Committee
BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Improving intra-Party life is in the fundamental interests of the Party and state, a guarantee of the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Last week, a key meeting of the CPC approved rules to standardize Party political life and strengthen Party governance.
One of the outcomes is a document which describes norms of political life within the Party under the new situation, a systematic embodiment of the spirit of the 18th CPC National Congress, and several plenary sessions which followed. The document aims to perfect the CPC system of internal governance.
An overhaul of Party political life is a pressing task, as problems remain, including some cadres' lax attitudes and tendency toward vulgarization and randomness.
All Party members must now keep democratic centralism in mind, the fundamental organizing principle of the CPC, and firmly uphold the authority of the CPC Central Committee.
More specifically, the entire Party should consciously maintain a high degree of consistency with the CPC Central Committee in thought, politics and action.
The norms also highlight other principles including close ties with the people, criticism and self-criticism, and Party democracy.
The CPC should serve the people, select competent officials, put them in the right place, and ensure the democratic rights of all members.
Strengthening Party political life is also pivotal to purifying, perfecting, reforming and upgrading the CPC.
If the CPC wants to consolidate its ruling status and break new ground, it must strengthen and regulate itself, addressing officials' weaknesses, incompetence, and corruption.
The CPC will tackle corruption in its bureaucratic system by putting an end to the buying and selling of official posts and vote rigging. A clean political system will be established where there is no hiding place for corruption, and where all practices are clean and transparent.
High-profile officials should play a decisive role in regulating the Party. Inspired by their example, subordinates and other members will be stimulated to follow Party principles and decisions, and closely unite around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core.
All Party members should adhere to the principles advocated in the norms, making concerted efforts to improve the Party, and defend the clean and advanced nature of the CPC.
