China re-elected to UN Human Rights Council

The UN General Assembly has elected China and other 13 countries to the organisation's next Human Rights Council. The three-year term of office will start from January 1st next year.

China is also a member of the current council. It was re-elected Friday after winning 180 votes out of a possible 193.

The UN council addresses human rights violations and makes corresponding recommendations. It responds to human rights emergencies, and works to prevent abuses.
