The China International Fashion Week of 2017, spring and summer series, is taking place here in the capital. And collections featuring traditional Chinese elements are highlighting the runway.

The modern qipao, or cheongsam known in the west, stole the limelight on the runway of China International Fashion Week.

With the theme "wearing a traditional cheongsam is like wearing a fashionable dress", the cheongsam release session featured models in different types of the dress walking down the catwalk. The designer integrated the western-style cut method into Chinese embroidery craft, making the traditional dress more fashionable. 

The collection was inspired by Chinese traditional culture. With high quality fabrics, exquisite crafts, and rich colors, this collection recreates the handicraft skills of Chinese traditional garments, pays attention to detail, and shows Chinese-style elegance, and tranquillity. 

"Adhering to our country's traditional culture, my collection integrates it into the daily needs of life, treats harmony as beauty and sets practical function as essence; the style is gorgeous and plain, quiet and lively. I think fashion week is a great platform to promote our traditional culture," said Chu Yan, designer.

This collection is titled “silk rhyme.” It features simple but elegant designs with concise patterns. Together with high quality fabrics, it fully shows the elegant and noble female temperament with soft lines.

"I want to put accents on Chinese elements through this collection and silk is what I chose, as China is famous for its high quality silk. And also, I believe silk as a fabric is most suitable to showcase the beauty and elegance of women," said Yu Jia, designer.

China Fashion Week will run through Nov 2. More than 70 designers, and more than 90 brands and organizations from home and abroad will stage 80 shows during the nine-day event.
