To China for snooker and the International Championship in Daqing. On Tuesday local favourite Ding Junhui look on Welshman Matthew Stevens in the second round hoping to replicate the form that saw him thrash David Grace 6-1 in his previous match.

This is expected to be a tougher test for Ding as his opponent eased into this stage of the competition after also beating Chris Wakelin 6-1. 

The 29-year-old Ding impresses early on and wins the first two frames with runs of 116 and 82.

Stevens fights back in the 3rd and 4th and now trails 3-2, but the Welshman misses this straightforward blue in the sixth frame.

And he finds himself in  more trouble as he's unable to connect with the long red.

And that allows Ding to snooker him behind the yellow, setting up a very tough shot for the embattled Stevens.

And as expected he would be unable to find a way out of the jam and that pretty much spells the end of his tournament as Ding goes on to close it out 6-2 including a 102 break in the final frame.

Also on Tuesday, Norway’s Kurt Maflin is taking on Ronnie O’Sullivan for a place in the third round. The Rocket takes an early lead of 2-0 only to see Maflin respond brilliantly with consecutive runs of 85 and 124 to level the score.

The world number 42 is playing the better snooker by frame 7 and wins 61-47 to go in front for the first time in the match.

Its at this stage O’Sullivan shows his class. Breaks of 84 and 101 in the final two frames seals a 6-4 win. Also advancing are usual suspects John Higgins, Mark Selby, Neil Robertson and Judd Trump.
