The European Commission is demanding clarifications from seven eurozone countries about their draft budgets. The commission expressed particular concern that Italy, Cyprus and Finland are not meeting EU budget targets.

The commission also said that Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Lithuania have different but less worrying problems with their budgets. The seven countries have until Thursday to respond to the commission's demands.
