Fierce fighting and air strikes broke a unilateral Russian ceasefire in the divided Syrian city of Aleppo on its third day. The first Syrian or Russian air strikes on Aleppo since Moscow began the four-day pause in hostilities on Thursday hit a key front line in the city's southwest.
Clashes and shelling on front lines continued throughout Saturday and intensified late in the day. Air strikes had continued to target other areas in Syria throughout the ceasefire. There have been night-time clashes in Aleppo each day of the ceasefire, but Saturday saw much fiercer fighting plus the first air strikes.
