Full coverage: King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej Passes Away

The remains of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away Thursday in Siriraj Hospital, were moved to the Grand Palace on Friday. Grieving Thais gathered to see the monarch off. A royal convoy, accompanied by Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, carried the body of the king to the palace.

Mourners sat for hours in Bangkok's urban heat awaiting the passage of the motorcade. The crown prince later presided over the bathing of his father's body, a traditional Buddhist funeral rite. It also marked the start of official mourning, which will include at least a hundred days of chanting by monks and months more of palace rituals.
