Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Bangladesh will be the first visit by a Chinese head of state to Bangladesh in 30 years. During his visit, set to begin today, Xi Jinping will meet with Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid. He will also hold talks with the country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with a series of bilateral deals to be signed.
Xi Jinping's visit will promote the implementation of the "Belt and Road Initiative" in Bangladesh. It is also expected to push bilateral relations to a new height and explore the full potential of economic and trade ties between the two countries.
Bangladesh is the second leg of President Xi's tour as he has concluded his state visit to Cambodia.
