Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Phnom Penh for a state visit. Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni has held a ceremony at his Royal Palace to welcome Xi. This is Xi’s first state visit to Cambodia since he took office three years ago. He is expected to hold talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Bilateral trade between China and Cambodia reached U.S.$4.4 billion last year. This year Beijing pledged U.S.$600 million in aid to Phnom Penh over the next five years.
Cambodia is the first leg of Xi’s current overseas trip, which also includes Bangladesh and India.
