We open serve with tennis, and first round action from the China Open in Beijing. China's Zhang Shuai would open against former major winner Sam Stosur. Making this match more intriguing is the fact that the two are also doubles partners, and teamed at the U-S Open, so are quite familiar with each other. And it would be the Chinese, exploiting that knowledge in an easy victory over her Aussie opponent.

Zhang beat Stosur in singles at the U-S open, while the Australian got the better of the Chinese at the French. Stosur struggles early on double faulting as Zhang breaks in the opening game.

The home favourite would take advantage of Stosur's poor play as she fires this volley into the open court to take a 4-love lead.

And another point at the net seals a 6-1 opening frame win for Zhang, much to the delight of the crowd.

Stosur would play more consistently in the second, and her heavy serving helps her stay competitive.

Also attacking Zhang's serve with big returns.

But Stosur would have 21 unforced errors in the match, two coming in the fifth game against Zhang's serve.

And the Aussie would continue to make mistakes, dropping the last four games of the set, firing long on match point to hand Zhang the match 6-1, 6-2, as she meets Alison Riske of the U-S next.

In other matches, China's Wang Yafan overpowered American Madison Brengle 6-2, 6-2.  Annieszka Radwanska defeated China's Wang Qiang in straight ones. Seventh seed Carla Suarez Navarro was ousted by Yaroslava Shvedova.
