Petra Kvitova was looking to continue her dominant run at the Wuhan Open. The 2014 winner of the event, already dispatched world number one Angelique Kerber in the quarters. Demolished world number five Simona Halep in the semis, and was looking to add Dominka Cibulkova to that last, as the two met in the win final.

Kvitova on the left, a two-time Wimbledon champ had yet to win on tour this year.

The Czech held serve in the opening game, and was in control in the second, Kvitova gets Cibulkova to the net with a drop shot, and follows that with a brilliant stretching backhand that helps her break at love.

And it looked like the Czech was going to take the opening frame at love, firing heavy groundstrokes, and keeping Cibulkova pinned to the baseline, and then unleashes a winner at the net -- and grabs a 4-love edge.

Cibulkova did momentarily halt her progress with a break in the fifth game, but the Czech's rips a forehand out of the reach of the Slovak.

At set point, Kvitova fires an ace to wrap up a dominating performance 6-1.

In the second, Cibulkova, appearing in just the second Premier five final of her career, battled in vain to avoid a rout, she moves Kvitova around the court, as the Slovak fires home a winner, but she still trails.

But, Kvitova dominated the rest of the match, and raced to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over the Slovak. It's the Czech's first WTA title of the year. Despite her defeat, Cibulkova will move up to a career-high eighth in the rankings, while Kvitova will climb to 11th after coming into the tournament 16, her lowest ranking since May 2011. She will also move from No. 21 to No. 12 in the "Road to Singapore".

"Well, yeah, it's great. For sure that winning a title is something that's special for us, that's why we are playing tennis and why I love to play in the finals and the titles are the best, for sure. I mean, the rankings is just showing the results of the season and I'm not really looking for the rankings but for the performance and which I did really...I had a great week here," Kvitova said.
