Defending champion of Wuhan Open Venus Williams would be in action looking to take step closer to trying to be a repeat winner in Hubei province, but her opponent - Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova would be looking to put an end to her reign.
Kuznetsova was in control taking the opening set 6-2, and is able to fire home this cross court winner, as Venus comes to the net, allowing the Russian to pass her in the second set.
And the Russian would be able to easily handle the older Williams sister, coming away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to make the quarter-finals, and dethroning the champ.
KVITOVA EDGES KERBER 6-7, 7-5,6-4
New number one Angelique Kerber would face two-time Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova. The two combatants would split the first two sets, and Kerber would be on the defensive in the opening game of the decider -- as Kvitova fires home a winner.
The Czech would get a break in the frame, and hold serve the rest of the way -- the lefty putting a forehand out of the reach of Kerber as she prevails in three sets 6-7, 7-5, 6-4.
A couple of match-ups tonight as Svetlana Kuznetsova face Agieszka Radwanska. And Kvitova continues her run against Britain's Johanna Konta.
