Europe is still divided over how to deal with its ongoing refugee and migrant crisis. Later today in Vienna, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to meet leaders of countries along the Balkan migrant route to dicuss the issue. Meanwhile, Hungary is set to hold a referendum on whether it should take part in the European Union's quota system for the distribution of asylum requests across the bloc.
The split between countries like Germany and France and countries in the east of the European Union is set to come to a head on October 2nd.
It's when the Hungarian people head to cast their vote on whether to accept an EU proposal on spreading asylum requests across the 28 countries to ease the burden on those hardest hit like Italy and Greece.
Hungarian President Janes Ader has backed the country's Prime Minister Victor Orban on calling for their people to vote down the idea to distribute 160,000 refugees and migrants.
He says “Those who came illegally, they must be rounded up and shipped out,”
He's calling for refugee camps to be set up in non-EU countries which would be supported financially and militarily by the EU.
The suggestion is they would be placed in countries like Morocco or other north African nations.
That idea has been unpopular in Brussels where many other EU countries believe they have the responsibility to accept genuine asylum requests.
It's widely expected that the Hungarian people will reject the quotas at the referendum October 2nd.
