The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is known for its rich natural resources. Companies from the area have been supplying products ranging from fresh vegetables to electricity to the rest of the country.
These beautiful flowers in an agriculture zone in Xinjiang are grown with zero pesticide and chemical fertilizers.
“We have 17 thousand hectares of land dedicated to green agriculture. Our chicken and pigs are raised with zero pollution," said An Hu, deputy director, Changji National Agriculture Zone.
Official from the agriculture zone said that's largely thanks to supportive financial incentives.
"The government, companies, insurance firms and banks have formed a financing unity. They provided financing support to build our 120 square kilometers protective forest. What's more, banks have opened a priority tunnel for our small farming companies to get loans faster," An said.
You can also find other cases of green development in Xinjiang. This is a coal industrial park, apart from producing electricity, also uses coal power to extract materials like aluminum.
This place is definitely not as beautiful as the agriculture garden, but it has managed a green development path since it was set up in 2012.
"Our machine units consume 10 percent less coal per unit of power output. We also post our pollution metrics online in real time so that citizens can monitor us," said Qi Yonghe, Chief Engineer, Shenhua Shendong Power.
Qi said investing in energy-saving machines is not cheap. But they are able to do so because Xinjiang has lower energy costs to counter that. He said with Xinjiang's natural resource advantages they are aiming to invest more in green technology.
