Third night of protests turns quiet after curfew in Charlotte

In the US, a third night of protests over a fatal police shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina, has ended peacefully as a new curfew took effect.

The National Guard had arrived to keep the peace in the city's business district. Some protesters briefly took over a bridge over Interstate-277 after the curfew took effect.

Meanwhile, in the southern US city of Tulsa, a police officer was charged with first-degree manslaughter for shooting an unarmed black man. This has heightened tensions between the police and the African-American community.

The court says the police officer involved faces a minimum prison sentence of four years.
