Weather forecasters have issued an orange alert for waves and a yellow alert for storms as Typhoon Malakas continues to move along the east coast of the Chinese mainland.
In China's four-tier severe weather warning system, red holds the highest degree of severity, followed by orange, yellow and blue. China's National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center says Typhoon Malakas was located off the coast of Zhejiang Province at 8 AM local time on Sunday. For the next two days the typhoon is expected to bring in waves up to 9 meters in height. Storm surges of up to 100 centimeters are expected in coastal areas of both Jiangsu and Fujian province.
