Full coverage: 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Red Army's Long March
In this episode, we travel to Luhuo County in southwest China’s Sichuan province.
This ethnic Tibetan region was where the Marchers stayed for six months to rest and regroup. The Red Army also made efforts to protect local cultural relics. Liu Qu is a local party historian.
"When the troops first got here, they put up a fierce fight with the armed monks of the Shouling Temple, who’d pledged allegiance to the Kuomintang. The Red Army ended up capturing the temple and made it their military headquarters. This is a place where a lot of Tibetan cultural relics are stored. The Red Army leaders made it very clear to the soldiers that they needed to protect and not damage them," said Liu Qu, director of Luhuo County party history office.
