Dong Chao successfully defended his Paralympic 10-meter air rifle standing SH1 title by holding off Abdullah Sultan Alaryani of the UAE. The 30-year-old secured the gold medal with 205.8 points, beating Alaryani by just 3.2 points. China's Zheng Tao set a new world record to win gold in the men's 100m backstroke S6 final. He clocked in at 1 minute 10.84 seconds, and his compatriot Jia Hongguang took silver.
China's Zhang Li won the women's 200m freestyle S5 final. The 18-year-old finished in two minutes 48.33 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of Spain's Teresa Pe-ra-les. World record holder Huang Lisha won her third straight Paralympic 100-meter T53 title, beating fellow Chinese Zhou Hongzhuan.
Li Liqing won the women's judo-48 kilogram title by defeating Germany's defending Carmen Brussig by ippon. The 23-year-old shed tears of joy after securing her first Paralympic gold medal.
