Israel's military has carried out air strikes on Syrian army positions in Golan Heights. The attack comes after a rogue mortar shell from fighting between factions in Syria landed in Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. No casualties were reported. According to a spokesperson for the Israeli military, the air force targeted Syrian mortar launchers.
The area is close to where fighting in Syria's civil war is taking place. There have been similir military retaliations in the past when there has been an overspill of fire into Israeli territory. Golan Heights is a strategic plateau captured by Israel from Syria in 1967 and annexed in 1981, a move which has not won international recognition.
