The B20 serves as a significant platform for the international business community to participate in global economic governance.

B20 task forces consult with the business community and devise a list of recommendations for G20 members. More than 400 policy recommendations have been proposed since 2010. Many have been incorporated by G20 leaders into previous communiqués.

Jean-Sebastien Jacques—the chief executive of the world’s largest metals and mining corporation, Rio Tinto—believes this year’s meeting is crucial.

“The B20 meeting is coming at a very important time. As you know the economy is not moving very fast globally… If we find a way to unlock those infrastructure projects, it would have potentially very important materially impact on the global economy… So B20 this year is very important,” said  Jacques.
