The latest leader arriving for the G20 summit in Hangzhou is Brazil’s new president Michel Temer. Temer was sworn in as the Brazilian President after the country’s Senate voted on August 31 to remove former President Dilma Rousseff.
Temer says he will take the opportunity at the G20 Summit to improve his country’s image. He says that “universality” in terms of foreign policy is the message Brazil will bring to the G20 Summit.
Brazil is China’s 10th largest trading partner and is also China’s biggest investment destination in Latin America. A senior Brazilian official says Brazil and China will sign an deal to expand cooperation in trade and services on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
The official says the agreement will benefit sectors accounting for up to 58 percent of Brazil’s GDP. Brazil is a founding member of the “BRICS” group of five major emerging economies. The BRICS Summit is routinely held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
