World leaders continue to arrive in China, as the G20 Summit begins on Sunday. President Idriss Deby of Chad is landing just now. President Deby has been invited to the G20 summit as the current chair of the African Union.
Chad, Africa’s fifth largest country, is rich in gold and uranium and stands to benefit from its recently-acquired status as an oil-exporting state. But it suffers from inadequate infrastructure and internal conflict. To revive the economy, Chad’s government has been trying to improve its business environment.
China has close ties with Chad in the oil business. The two countries have a joint-venture oil refinery in the country. More Chinese companies are encouraged to invest in Chad.
