Ahead of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, the Chinese ambassador to the US commented on the long history of cooperation between China and the US since the creation of the G20 group.
Ambassador Cui Tiankai said the two sides will continue to play a constructive role in this year's meetings.
He said, "After the G20 was established, China and the U.S. have cooperated with each other in plenty of ways. I believe people across the world want the two countries to continue to work together and play constructive roles in making this G20 Summit a success."
Cui said Chinese and US leaders have had strategic talks during past G20 summits. He added that Hangzhou was where the 'Joint Communiqué of the US and China' was signed in 1972. That marked the beginning of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Chinese diplomat said the past 40 years show that China and the US have to cooperate and establish a new pattern of relationship between world powers.
