Turkey has shelled Islamic State militant positions in Syria for two days in a row now, in response to mortar fire from across the border. Turkish media reports say artillery hit four ISIL positions in Jarablus, after shelling targets in northern Syria Monday evening.
This comes after a suicide bombing at a wedding in a Turkish city near the Syrian border over the weekend killed 54 people.Turkey vowed to "completely cleanse" Islamic State militants from the country after the bombing. It was the deadliest attack in Turkey this year.
On Sunday, Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan had announced that the bomber was in fact an ISIL member between ages of 12 and 14, but this is already clear by a statement made by the Turkish forgein minister that this was coming. Let's listen.
"Of course our border must be completely cleansed of ISIL. It is consistent for us to give the necessary support needed to cleanse ISIL from the area during this period," said Foreign Minister for Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu.
So we can surely expect more operations against Islamic State ISIL in the upcoming days, as already on Saturday the Turkish prime minister had announced before the bombing that they would be conducting more operations, they would be more actively addressing the conflicts in Syria in the next six months.
