Russia military aircraft that took part in the operation of conducting air strikes from an Iranian air base on terrorist targets in Syria have completed their missions, according to Russian defence ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov.
Konashenkov said further use of the Hamadan air base in Hamadan province by Russia will be depended on the prevailing circumstances in Syria.
Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim hinted on Saturday that Ankara would not mind it if Russia used the Incirlik airbase, in the city of Adana, for its anti-terror missions against Islamic State terrorists in Syria. But no such requests have been made from Russia yet.
Russia has announced that the country will transform the Khmeimim airfield into a full-fledged military base with a permanently deployed task force. Russian-language newspaper Izvestia’s source at the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the information. The expand will enable the the deployment of heavy aircraft in the near future.
