Teachers, students and local residents at the Cambridge University got a taste of Chinese culture. The university held a concert at its Saint John Auditorium, featuring a traditional Chinese instrument called "Cucurbit Flute". The instrument has been around in China's southwest Yunnan Province for thousands of years.

The tune "Bamboo Under the Moonlight" transported the audience to the faraway lands of China's Yunnan Province, as the cucurbit flute paints a sonic landscape of serene lakes and ethic Dai bamboo huts.

Aside from landscapes, the evening's program also included pieces that evoked the vibrant dances of the regions ethnic groups.

Cucurbit flutist Zhang He is also a composer and has brought some of his new works such as "Memory about the Champs - Elysees".

"We enjoyed it very much. John can even play it, but not very well at the moment. Two years ago, we also took them to some English schools. And they did a few lessons there, which the children enjoyed very much," said Pat Hook, English teacher, Cambridge Language School.

The Cucurbit flute, is composed of three bamboo pipes passing through a gourd wind chest, has its orgin in the southwest of Yunnan Province. It is popular with the local Dai Achang and Wa people for 3000 years.  The mellow and clarinet-like sound of the cucurbit flute has proved a hit with audiences.

The youngest touring band from China was only five years old. It's the band's second visit to the UK. They have performed in South Korea, Japan and South Africa, hoping to bring ethnic Chinese culture to other parts of the world.
