Brazil's central bank says the 2016 Rio Olympics will generate about 200 million U.S. dollars in tourism for the country. That's much lower than the 900 million US dollars generated during the 2014 World Cup. It's estimated that 500 thousand overseas tourists will visit the host city of Rio De Janeiro.

Officials say the Olympic Games will have a positive effect on the country's economy in such sectors as hotels, restaurants and car rentals. The central bank added that overseas visitors contributed 3.2 billion U.S. dollars to Brazil's tourism sector in the first half of 2016. That was a 7.2 percent increase year on year.

At the end of 2015, Brazil began visa free services from June through mid September of this year for visitors from four countries, including the U.S., Canada, Australia and Japan. More than 100 million Chinese people traveled overseas in 2015, but only 53 thousand visited Brazil.
