26th National Book Trading Expo opens in Baotou

The 26th National Book Trading Expo has opened in the city of Baotou in Inner Mongolia. The exhibition is also being hosted by the cities of Ulanqab and Wuhai. But this year, books from one particular theme are drawing the most attention.

2016 marks the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and also the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's Long March. So the red-themed books are a hightlight of this year's expo.

"I came all the way from Tianjin. And I'm really interested in books on history, especially the history of our Communist Party of China. I found abundant material here, so I can further my research."

This year's national book fair -- referred to as the "Olympics of Books" -- is expected to attract more than 500 publishers and agencies from around the country. It will have more than 2,000 booths, as well as book sellers, universities and libraries.

"The scale of National Book Expo has been growing over the years and its influence is increasing. This really shows the tremendous progress of our publishing industry. And it helps promote reading among the public," said Ren Chao, exhibitor.

This year's sponsors are the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and TV, the Inner Mongolian government, the regional administration of press, publication, radio, film and TV, and the Baotou government. The expo will showcase nearly a quarter of a million publications and it runs until July 30th.
