Full coverage: THAAD Deployment in South Korea
The "anti-THAAD" deployment committee from South Korea's Seongju county said that they will write a letter to the two US presidential candidates, demanding them to abandon their plans of establishing the missile defense system.
The committee said they have expressed their regret about the US's decision to deploy an anti missile system called the "Terminal High Altitude Area Defense", in a letter addressed to democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
The committee said that if deployed, THAAD would impact the lives of 50,000 residents in Seongju county. T
he committee also added that THAAD could not even protect the South Korean capital of Seoul and will only put the Korean peninsula under a "cold war situation".
People in the region claim the THAAD system will pose serious health risks and will cause environmental damage due to its strong electromagnetic waves.
