Police in South Korea have clashed with protesters who tried to disrupt the opening of a Tokyo-funded foundation for the victims of sexual slavery by the Japanese military before and during World War Two.

Japan has pledged 9-and-a-half million US dollars for the foundation. But the protesters criticized the Seoul government and said the settlement was too little. South Korean officials said Japan has not yet transferred the funds, but expected it to do so soon.
