Russia and Turkey are resuming trade and energy ties after a prolonged interruption due to Turkey downing a Russian war plane last November.

Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister visited Moscow to meet his Russian counterpart, in what is the country's first ministerial-level visit after its apology for the incident.

The main aim of the talks is to restore economic ties between Russia and Turkey. Moscow severed them after Turkey shot down a Russian jet over Syria in November last year.

The delegations discussed the resumption of the TurkStream gas pipeline from Russia to Turkey. But no decision was reached, according to Russia's Deputy Energy Minister.

As part of its sanctions against Turkey, Russia also suspended charter flights from Russia to Turkey. The Russian Deputy Prime Minister says the resumption of those flights "will take some time."

The two sides also discussed the lifting of an embargo on Turkish food imports. However, they say it's unlikely to be lifted before Russian President Vladimir Putin meets his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayip Erdogan.

Talks are planned for 9th August in Saint Petersburg. It will be their first meeting since the diplomatic crisis began. Moscow and Ankara agreed to resume the normalization of ties after President Erdogan sent an apology to President Putin over the downed Russian jet.
