Full coverage: The South China Sea Issue

The South China Sea issues were discussed during the ASEAN meetings. One of the clear messages is that the South China Sea issue is between China and the Philippines, and is not a problem for ASEAN as a whole.

According to a senior Chinese official close to Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Philippines did not ask for advice from other members of ASEAN before filing the South China Sea arbitration case against China.

He also said that the issue should be resolved in according to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties on the South China Sea.
