Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve says that France will boost the operational reserve of the country's gendarmerie. Speaking in Paris, he said 2,500 French people had asked to join the reserve in the last 10 days. Cazenueve added that in total nearly twenty-three-thousand five hundred reservists would be patrolling various events.

"There are currently 10,000 military working within Operation Sentinelle, split between Paris and the rest of the country, and we have also decided to boost the numbers of the operational reserve of the gendarmerie," Cazeneuve said.

The French Cabinet has held a full cabinet meeting following a security and defense council meeting in Paris. The cabinet meeting came right after a meeting between President Francois Hollande and leaders of religious groups. French religious leaders on Wednesday called for authorities to boost security at places of worship. Two attackers stormed a Normandy church during morning mass on Tuesday, killing an 86-year-old priest.

The attack, claimed by ISIL jihadists, comes less than two weeks after a Tunisian attacker ploughed a truck into a crowd in the coastal city of Nice, killing 84 people and injuring over 300.
