An explosion has been heard near the US consular service in the coastal city of Jeddah. Al Jazeera cited local media as reporting security forces have neutralized a bomber.

It also reported a police officer has been injured. The attack happened in early today, when the US is celebrating Independence Day. The same consulate was attacked in 2004, where nine people died. We'll bring you more details as they become available.
