The Polish folk song and dance ensemble 'Mazowsze' are regarded as one of the world's best known folk dance groups. As an ambassador of Polish culture, the ensemble have played an important role in cultural exchanges between Poland and China.
A gem in the artistic crown of Poland, Mazowsze's rich repertoire of music and dance delights audiences of all ages and nations.
The ensemble made their debut in Warsaw's Polish Theater in 1950. Since then, they have made over 6,000 performances - in Poland, and more than 50 countries worldwide. Mazowsze also has a long history with China. As early as 1953, the ensemble paid its first visit to China, which attracted more than 100,000 audience members. And five more visits followed after their first one.
"The ensemble has paid 6 visits to China. And I'm honored to visit China in 2004. It was a beautiful memory because the audiences were so passionate, I could tell that they loved our performance," said Michal Haber Mazowsze.
Today, the ensemble's exhibition hall still has the gifts presented by Chinese audiences on show, including porcelain works, paintings and figurines.
As President Xi Jinping is visiting Poland, performers of the ensemble are busy rehearsing for the performance that will welcome the Chinese president.
"You know the ensemble has a long history with China, so we are very excited about the performance. We hope to bring Polish culture to more Chinese audience in the future," said Jacek Boniecki Mazowsze manager.
