Serbia borders eight countries, it serves as a geographic crossroad between China and Europe. Ties between China and Serbia have been developed rapidly since the countries elevated their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership in 2009. The two countries have since seen many high level visits, including the Serbian President's visit to China last year.
"The visit by Chinese president is an important event not only in Serbia but also in the whole region. It will boost bilateral relations between the two countries. And the Serbian people will welcome a great friend like President Xi in our own ways," said Ivan Tosovac, Serbian Minister of Culture and Media.
The whole country is looking forward to President Xi’s visit to Serbia. And officials believe the visit will boost tourism in the country.
"We are really happy that he is coming to Serbia," said Marija Labovic, CEO of National Tourism Organization of Serbia.
In recent years, the number of Chinese tourists to Serbia has been on the rise. 2015 in particular has seen a dramatic increase of Chinese tourists visiting the country. Serbia's abundant natural and cultural resources have proved to be a huge lure for visitors.
"What is important to know is that we have such a good connection," Labovic said.
The two countries are also aiming at comprehensive cooperation in the field of energy, finance, telecommunications, agriculture and other sectors.
