Hundreds of thousands of people are under siege in Syria and Iraq as the conflicts in the two countries continue.

The UN's humanitarian chief has demanded that the Syrian government and militant groups stop interfering with the delivery of food and medicine in besieged and difficult-to-reach areas.

A UN official says food is in very short supply in the city and there are reports of  men and boys being executed for refusing to fight for Islamic State.
