The Philippine Congress Wednesday started the official counting of votes cast in the May 9 presidential election. The results are expected to be announced on June 8.
An unofficial tally has already named Rodrigo Duterte, the 71-year-old mayor of Davao city, as having won the presidential election. So currently, the country is focusing on the more closely fought vice presidential race between Leni Robredo and Ferdinand Marcos Junior. The unofficial tally puts Robredo as leading Marcos by some 200-thousand votes. Marcos, however, said there were irregularities in the vote counting.
