Full coverage: South China Sea Is Indisputable Part of China
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged G7 member states to focus on global economic, financial and development issues instead of exacerbating regional tensions related to the South China Sea.
Wang added that China hopes the G7, the members of which are also members of the G20, will play a positive and constructive role in the upcoming G20 summit held in China later this September.
"Whatever the G7 members discuss, they should uphold an objective and fair stance. The G7 members shouldn't adopt double standards, or draw lines according to political alliances, and incite regional tensions. China's stance on the South China Sea issue has been clear -- that disputes should be peacefully settled through dialogue and negotiation between the countries directly involved, based on international law and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea," he said.
