Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will meet with the US president upon his arrival in Japan.

Obama is visiting the country to attend a two-day G7 summit from Thursday. His trip comes amid anti-US protests on the southern island of Okinawa.

The demonstrations follow the arrest of a former US military soldier in connection with the rape and murder of a local woman four days ago. The incident has escalated long-term tensions between residents and the US base on the island.
