US President Barack Obama has arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam for diplomatic talks and later he will head to Japan for a historic visit to Hiroshima. Obama's tenth trip to Asia aims -- in part -- to close the chapters on two 20th century wars in a region vital to America's future.

In Hanoi, he will hold talks on lifting a Vietnam arms embargo.  He will also travel to Vietnam's economic hub -- Ho Chi Minh City -- to highlight the country's growing commercial clout.

In Japan, Obama will attend a G7 summit and make history by becoming the first sitting US president to visit Hiroshima - the site of the world's first nuclear bomb attack. Victims of the bombings have been calling for an apology. But Obama said the visit aims at emphasising friendly ties between both countries, and reiterated he would not apologise for the devastating attack.
